TDS Reforged Modifiers Guide
Everything about modifiers: unlocking, effects, and how to counter each one in TDS Reforged.
Modifiers are special attributes applied to TDS Reforged matches that change how enemies behave, how much damage they take, or how rewards scale. Some modifiers make matches harder, while others are cosmetic. Understanding modifiers is essential for consistent clears in Hardcore, Death Invasion, and specialty modes.
How modifiers work
Most modifiers are automatically applied at the start of a match based on the mode or map selection. Some modifiers obtained from Challenge Trials can be voted on before a match begins. Selected modifiers appear on the bottom left side of the screen during gameplay.
The modifier system in TDS Reforged mirrors the core design of Tower Defense Simulator while adding custom combinations unique to Vince Games’ fan project. After the 15 Aug 2026 PVP Update, additional modifier types were introduced to increase variety in specialty playlists.
Modifier types and effects
| Modifier | Effect | Counter Strategy |
|---|---|---|
| Fast | All enemies move 30% faster | Slowing towers, early chip damage, accelerated targeting |
| Tank | Enemy HP increased by 50% | Sustained DPS, boss-focus carries, armor-break strategies |
| Swarmer | Many weak enemies spawn in rapid succession | Splash damage, area-effect towers, economy builds |
| Boss | Single powerful enemy with massive HP | Full carry rotation, sell timing, buff stacking |
| Hidden | Enemies invisible until close range | Detection flex, scanning towers, landmark placement |
| All Paths | Enemies duplicate for each path (bosses exempt) | Multi-lane coverage, balanced board placement |
| Double HP | All enemies have doubled health pools | Extended DPS focus, reduced economy spending |
How to unlock modifiers
Many modifiers are unlocked through Challenge Trials in TDS Reforged. Completing specific Challenge Trial objectives grants access to selectable modifiers that can be voted on before matches. The YouTube video embedded in this guide shows the complete process of unlocking all modifiers in TDS 2026.
Some modifiers are always active in certain modes and cannot be disabled. Check the mode description before queuing to understand what permanent modifiers apply.
Counter strategies by modifier
Countering Fast modifier
Fast enemies rush through your defenses before slow towers can react. The counter strategy involves placing slowing towers on the first bend, using early chip damage to weaken speeders before they reach your main DPS, and switching targeting to First to catch rushed enemies early.
Golden Ace Pilot and Vanguard excel against Fast modifier because their projectiles have travel time that becomes more relevant when enemies move faster. Engineer turrets also provide consistent chip that matters more with accelerated enemy flow.
Countering Tank modifier
Tank enemies absorb damage that would normally clear grunts. Your carry needs sustained DPS rather than burst. Golden Minigunner with its sustained fire rate becomes more valuable under Tank modifier. Enforcer’s single-target burst loses effectiveness against massive HP pools.
Sell economy pieces earlier to fund your carry upgrade. Under Tank modifier, a delayed carry is more punishing than a delayed economy piece.
Countering Swarmer modifier
Swarmer floods the map with weak enemies that overwhelm through volume. Splash damage towers like Pyromaniac orrockets excel. Economy builds suffer because each enemy drops less total value than a single tank.
Do not overspend on single-target carries. Spread your board with area-effect units and let splash damage handle the horde. Vanguard’s multi-projectile pattern performs well against swarm compositions.
Countering Hidden modifier
Hidden enemies remain invisible until they approach your towers. Without detection, these enemies bypass your defenses entirely. Detection flex towers reveal hidden enemies so your main DPS can target them.
Bring at least one detection tower when playing maps known for Hidden modifier rotations. The leak from a single hidden enemy often costs more than the economy of running detection full-time.
Countering All Paths modifier
All Paths duplicates enemies across every route with the exception of bosses. This modifier multiplies reward income but also multiplies threat volume. You need balanced coverage across all lanes.
Do not concentrate all towers on a single path. Spread your loadout to handle simultaneous multi-lane pressure. This modifier rewards flexible towers that cover multiple angles like Golden Ace Pilot’s broad targeting.
Modifier combinations
Specialty modes like Death Invasion, Polluted Core, and Enraged stack multiple modifiers simultaneously. A Death Invasion with Fast and Tank modifiers requires different priorities than a standard Death Invasion clear.
Before entering specialty modes, check the current modifier rotation in Live Status. Stack modifiers change tower priorities significantly.

Post-patch retest
When Vince Games updates the universe (most recently 21 Aug 2026), modifier effects may change. Retest one standard map under each common modifier to recalibrate your counter instincts. Log which modifiers caused leaks and adjust pre-queue loadout selections accordingly.
Modifiers are not random. Name the active modifier, match the counter, and adjust your board before the first wave starts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How do I see which modifiers are active?
Active modifiers appear on the bottom left side of the screen during a match. Some modes show modifiers before the match starts during voting.
Can I choose which modifiers to enable?
Some modifiers unlocked through Challenge Trials can be voted on before matches. Most modifiers are automatically applied based on mode or map selection.
Which modifier is the hardest?
Hidden modifier causes the most unexpected leaks because invisible enemies bypass defenses entirely. All Paths modifier is challenging due to multiplied enemy volume across all routes.
Do modifiers affect rewards?
Some modifiers like All Paths increase Coin and EXP rewards by around 10%. Check specific modifier reward bonuses before assuming risk-reward ratios.
How do modifiers interact with specialty modes?
Death Invasion, Polluted Core, and Enraged stack multiple modifiers simultaneously. Always check Live Status for current modifier rotations before entering specialty modes.
